The Nooks and Cranny of Ile-Ife was again crowded on Thursday, 10 October with OAU students and their counterparts from other climes in a peaceful protest against Police brutalityin the country.
The protest which commenced in front of the Campus Gate with few people as at 10am in the morning gradually turnedin to a big crowd of hundreds. People were seen using there face masks in line with COVID-19 protocols.
At about 11 am, the convener whose name is still unknown as at the time of Drafting this news addressed all protesters, making the intentions known which is to make the Police Force aware of the Police brutality by their officers, and that the SARS and other Tactical Units should be Scrapped totally.
He also pleaded that it is a peaceful protest, and as such no weapons should be carried in any way.
The protest continued with the general populace cheering the Protesters and also joining to say “ENDSARS”.
At about 1pm, the youths already made their way to the Oonis Palace. Unfortunately, they were greeted by other chiefs who told them the king was out of Town, and that they would convey their grievances to him.
Lowa Adimula who addressed the Youths pleaded with them not to engage in any form of violence, and that they should make their way back to campus.
The dogged youths who have sworn to put an end to Police brutality in the Nation instead made their way to the Moore Police station at about 2pm,only to be greeted with tear gas and Gunshots.
While some remained desolute in the struggle, it was gathered that motor cycles were seized and some persons were arrested by the men of the Police Force.
Once again the students of Obafemi Awolowo University have shown that they are Great Ife, even in the midst of an ASUU STRIKE.
