The Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland is currently conducting a joint project with industry addressing changes in the Atlantic herring populations off western New found land, Canada.
A fully funded M.Sc. student position ($22,000/year) is available in the Fisheries Science and Technology program.
The successful candidate will investigate the ecology and physiology of Atlantic herring in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence.

Scholarship Details
The project will involve at-sea data and sample collection at various times of the year in several areas of the Gulf on board commercial fi shing vessels.
The project has the potential to involve both physiological data pertaining to age and fitness of spawning herring and hydroacoustic survey data. The project will involve facilities at the Marine Institute, Herring Science Council, and DFO.
Note
The position will join two large applied research teams, the Centre for Sustainable Aquatic Resource sand the Centre for Fisheries Ecosystems Research, both located at the Fisheries and Marine Institute, Memorial University, St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.
Start date is September 6, 2021.
