Rationally, the just concluded semester was a very rough one which took some students a very long time before they could adapt to the newly adopted methods of studies as necessitated by the spread of the Covid19′ Pandemic, and thereafter, gain their balances. As a matter of fact, it was a strange semester even to the stale students of the University, as such mode of studies had never been applied prior to the time. How much more the fresh students who barely spent up to a month on campus before they were sent on a long break due to the Covid19‘ which had a devastating effect on the Country’s educational sector, and largely, the world, having spent almost a year at home, and getting to resume academic activities virtually.

To cut the long story short; following the conclusion of the Harmattan Semester, there was a Special release from the management of the Obafemi Awolowo University, stating partly that the school’s senate will be holding a meeting today, the 16th of June, 2021 to decide on a suitable mode of resumption for students.
Lots of students are curious as they do not know what this meeting will birth. If you are in that category, take a quick look at what you should expect from the senate meeting holding today;
• Resumption Date:
From the Special Release which was circulated amongst members of the institution a couple of days back, it was stated that students are to resume to school for the Rain Semester on Friday, 18th June, 2021.
Well, you just may have to wait till today’s meeting is concluded in order to know if the announced resumption date still stands.
• Academic Calendar:
At the end of the Senate meeting today, students would get the refurbished Academic Calendar for the second half of the 2019/20 Academic session, and a hint on the 2021/2022 academic session. This will help students keep a track record of activities that’ll run throughout the rest of the session, as well as slated dates for them.

• Mode of Lecture – Virtual/Physical classes:
A lot of students are really curious to know the choice of the school’s Senate regarding the mode of Lectures for the coming semester. Whether it’ll be physical classes all through the Rain Semester, or a maintenance of the Virtual mode, or even a combination of both, it’ll be good that we all patiently wait for the Senate’s verdict as they will be relaying their decisions to the entire OAU Community afterwards.
While some students wish for a continuation of the virtual classes because there is no stress of commuting to Lecture theatres for classes, and they are able to do other things along side receiving lectures, a good number of other students wish for a return to physical classes because they found it very difficult to understand many of their courses in the previous semester (particularly MTH courses), and they also felt that the Lecturers didn’t fully make use of the opportunities that were made available to make students understand the courses virtually.
• Guidelines / Safety Protocols on Covid19′:
Knowing fully well that the Corona Virus Pandemic is responsible for the school’s choice of Lecturing mode for the previous semester – VIRTUALLY, resumption of activities will however be keen on the continual curtailing of the spread of the Virus. As a result, at the end of the Senate meeting today, you should expect protocols that will be observed on the OAU Campus once school resumes to help curb the spread of the Virus in the Rain semester. Students will therefore be obliged to observe these protocols and measures that will be put in place.
