Justice for Sylvester

Sylvester Oromoni was a junior student at Dowen college, Lagos State. The 12years old boy became popular on  Wednesday, December 1, 2021 following the post made by his cousin, Perry Oromoni after his death on Tuesday 30th November 2021 due to the circumstances surrounding his death. Perry Oromoni alleged that some senior pupils of Dowen college beat him up after he refused to join a cult in the college.

The father of Sylvester said they got a call two Sundays ago, that their son was hospitalized because he sustained injuries in the leg while playing football with his mate and he said he sent his guardian to go and pick him. The guardian reported to his father that Sylvester was complaining of pains all over his body including his stomach but didn’t talk when asked what happened and his condition was critical. He said they could see the fear in him but he refused to talk.

Last week, Sylvester was brought to Warri, Delta State for proper treatment. Test was carried out on him but there was no dislocation just his waist, ankle, thighs and stomach that were swollen and his mouth was peeling. He was complaining of pains in his chest and legs. Also, a scan was run on him and the doctor said he said he suffered from liver enlargement and congealed blood had gathered by the side of his liver.

Finally, on Monday 29th November 2021, Slyvester told his parents he was beaten by some seniors who entered his hostel to beat him up. He mentioned five of them, four are in SS2 while one is in SS1. Sylvester narrated that he was on his bed when the five pupils entered and flogged him with a belt. He fell from his bed while they kicked him and trampled on his body. He was asked why he didn’t talk earlier and he answered that he was scared because those seniors threatened to kill his roommates if any of them tried to snitch on them. He said he was told to lie that he fell while playing football with his mates.
