As 2021 is coming to an end, IOI presents you 10 top departments that made great impacts this year. During the course of the year, these departments made OAU headlines or had certain personalities that made the headlines.

1. English(eng)
The department of English made the headlines as the produced two candidates for the Students’ Union Central Executive Council. The two candidates won their seats for the Students’ Union President and PRO, their names are Reform and TAO respectively.
2. Theatre Arts/Dramatic arts (DRA)
Bukunmi Oluwasina along with other Veterans in the Nigerian movie industry graduated from the Theatre arts department of Obafemi Awolowo University. Bukunmi Oluwasina who also tops our list of OAU’S most influential Alumni in 2021. Bukunmi announced her upcoming song with a foreign Artiste, Tatiana, a few days ago in which she described her as an artiste she loves very much. The song is titled, “Happy girl singing sad songs”. During the course of the year, Bukunmi also featured in a lot of amazing Nigerian movies. Some of which are; Jankariwo 1 & 2, Ibukunmi, Obankoba, Omo Ogbogun, Awo, Pandemic wife, Tools, Twin sister, Omo Senator and a few more.
3. Computer Science(CSC)
The very department of OAU’s most innovative CEO, Fawole Tomi. Tomi is the CEO of The Trybe City, parent company of Inside OAU Innovations one of the biggest media brands in OAU. Constantly, updating the Great Ife populace with top notch articles and up-to-date news.
4. Physical and health education (PHE)
PHE, as their major focus is in sporting activities didn’t disappoint in making headlines for almost every sporting competition in OAU. The football team of the department also impressed as they clinched the Kings Champions cup and VC’s Cup earlier this year.
5. Philosophy(Phil)
The philosophy department also produced two candidates for the Students’Union Central Executive Council, Salvation for the Vice president seat and Perolexy for the Financial officer seat. But only Salvation won the election for the Vice president seat while Perolexy lost to Legbeti

6. Medicine
A graduate of Medicine made the headlines a few months ago as they produced the best ever medical graduating student in OAU. The person of Dr. Joy Oyinlola Adesina. The governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun also rewarded her for her exploits with a sum of N5 million and a three bedroom bungalow. That wasn’t all as she also received a medical scholarship for her residency at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu. The governor also tipped her to be Africa’s first Nobel laureate in Medicine.
7. Electrical engineering (elect elect)
In the just concluded OAU convocation ceremony, Elect elect produced the best graduating student. Finishing with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.88, on a scale of 5.0, Ohanekwu Favour, emerged the best graduating student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), and also won a Cash prize of a hundred thousand Naira (₦100,000) from the University.
8. Accounting (ACC)
Accounting also didn’t disappoint in making impacts this year as they produced the Financial officer of the Students’ union CEC, Legbeti. In the election Legbeti defeated two other candidates to clinch his feat. Moreso, the Accounting football team came close to winning the Kings Champions cup(KCC) finals, but were defeated by PHE in the Finals. Also, they were a team to watch in the Carabao cup, as they had 100% win in the group stage and made it all the way to the OAU carabao cup Semi finals before they were eliminated.
9. Economics (ECN)
Economics have been one of the top departments in OAU and is the department of arguably the biggest OAU influencer in 2021. Babafaros is an humble personality as those close to him testify. He was also instrumental in the protests which rocked OAU in late September.
10. Animal Science(ANS)
The Animal Science football team also known as Submarine FC were one of the best football teams of the year. The team is well known for their ruthlessness in defeating their opponents and also their amazing attacking style of play, you could call them the Man City of OAU. The Submarines won the 2020 Carabao cup edition defeating Dem Mafians of Demography in the Finals. Also, they were knocked out by PHE football team in the Semi finals of the Kings Champions cup (KCC) tournament, a game which everyone agreed to be very Tough.
As you can see these departments all made great exploits this year that were widely recognized by the Great Ife populace. Don’t be disappointed if your department didn’t rank, as you can also do something great for your department this coming year.
