These Nollywood acts made a style statement at the AMVCA – but for all the wrong reasons.
Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) is an annual accolade presented by MultiChoice recognizing outstanding achievement in television and film. The recent Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards ceremony was held at Eko Hotel and Suites, with media presenter Ik Osakioduwa and South African celebrity Bonang Matheba serving as hosts.
The red carpet was filled with all sorts of fashion statements and there were many applaudable ones while others missed the mark completely with their questionable fashion statements.
From bizarre styles that got us thinking they might have confused the AMVCA for Halloween to very simple looks that made us think they just threw something on to avoid being naked.
1. Pretty Mike
This ensemble was seen as a copy cat of Alicia Keys MET Gala fit. It somehow failed on him with the sheep he carried to fit with the antenna around his head.
2. Tiannah/ Toyin Lawani
Toyin Lawani is of course talented and super creative but she went overboard with this bull head. If this is to get people to talk, she won the lottery because she is even trending for styling others as though it was the MET Gala or Halloween.
3. Simi Drey
Simi didn’t seem to be targeting best dressed or anything, she just wanted to be there. We can call it a mimick of Kim Kardashian’s outfit that caused quite a stir but this didn’t meet the mark.
4. Ifuennada
She is pretty and could have done better but I don’t know how this whole ensemble got on her. It was probably one of the “it will fit you, wear it” from Toyin Lawani. The masks are of course questionable for an award show like AMVCA.
5. Lateef Adebimpe
She got styled by Toyin Lawani. I think the theme Tiannah chose for those she styled is discomfort and bizarre. This is not so bizarre unlike the others but this much volume with the top part looking like that? Murder. How did she sit in that?

That cape, the whole ensemble…
7. Sabinus
Sabinus decided to play safe and wore a very regular fit to the AMVCA. So basic and no attempt for sauce.
8. Nonso
You know how they say you can never go wrong in black, I think this outfit is an exemption. It was still giving until it got to the shoes part. I promise you I was hyperventilating.
9. Chy
I can’t decide how I feel about this dress yet, maybe I’m never going to decide because it is white and it is definitely going to cloud my sense of judgement, but bro what is this bead or flower? I’m confused.
10. Nkechi
Other than I fly at night energy this picture is giving me, can you see the ash couch she is sitting on and how it beautifully complemented her dress. Yes, your reminder to always invest in good furniture pieces. No sarcasm intended.
11. Femi Adebayo and Odunlade Adekola
These Yoruba actors didn’t put in any effort, because what is this for fashion sake??? Gallivanting up and down with their agbada and we should do what? Fly? But I love me some Yoruba man in agbada definitely, because other than show you shege and pepper they can love.
12. Etim
As good as this fit looks, Etim, I only have one question, do you not plan on eating while you wore this? Or you people don’t see the clothes strapped to his biceps? Here I am wondering if he could hug people, if this ever get to you can you tell us how you got through the night. Just for curiosity sake.
13. Ike
African prints will always stand out? Less is more? Because I don’t understand the point you were trying to make but I think I do a little we can see that you own a really beautiful african print outfit.
