It is election season and it seems to be the talk of the town, tensions are rising towards the 2023 elections. And it’s time for us Nigerian Students to take our stand and fulfill our civic rights by voting for the leaders of our choice. Lyndon B. Johnson said and I quote “This right to vote is the basic right without which all other are meaningless. It gives people, people as individuals, control over our destinies”. We can’t keep sitting and talking.

Our Permanent Voters Card (PVC) is one important asset we need to acquire to vote for the right candidate. To implement the usefulness, INEC and The European Union has collaborated with celebrities like Falz, Kizz Daniel, Waje and others by organizing a concert which is free, but the ticket to enter is your PVC or Your TEMPORARY VOTERS CARD.

Why the concert?

Nigerian Youths, who are popularly known for online agitation, but are barely active on the offline space. As part of the norms, quite a large number of them do not apply for Voters card, nor vote, because it’s believed that whoever the government wants as winner will definitely be the winner, voting might just be a waste of time, hence the concert.

The concert themed ‘Youth Vote Count Mega Concert 2.0‘ will hold on the 11th day of June, 2022 at Tafawa Balewa Square Lagos. Falz also stated that the entry fee for the concert will be the Personal Voters Card (PVC) or Voter’s registration slip. He then concluded that unregistered Nigerians will get the chance to register at the event.

Peter Okoye also known as Rude Boy tweeted that

I have just instructed my security and management that no one is allowed to visit my house or office without showing their PVC! This also includes my management team and entourage! No PVC! No visits and travels!… We must get it right this time and vote out bad leaders.

Even religious leaders in some parish have implemented the rule of no PVC no holy Communion for their worshippers, showing how important our PVC is for the upcoming election.

How Do You Get Your PVC?

  • To get your PVC you have to be at least 18 years of age.
  • You can then proceed to do your registration online by visiting the INEC registration portal where you are to fill necessary information before proceeding to the INEC office for biometrics or
  • You can visit the nearest INEC registration center in your local government where you will be asked to present your proof of identity such as your national I.D, driver’s license if you have any and many others. Your details will be taken as well as your biometrics.
  • The officials will then give you your Temporary Voters Card which you will have to keep till your permanent voters card is ready and you will have to present it to obtain the permanent one.
