Share

Tomorrow is the D-day of the long-awaited elections for governor of Osun will take place. Over the course of the previous few weeks, the political parties and their candidates have unveiled tactics and ramped up their campaigns in an effort to win the support of the vast majority of the people in the state of Osun.

The leading candidates for this election include Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress, Ademola Adeleke of the People’s Democratic Party, Lasun Yusuff of the Labour Party, Akin Ogunbiyi of the Accord Party, and Goke Omigbodun of the Social Democratic Party, amongst others. Governor Oyetola is a member of the All Progressives Congress.

Inside OAU Innovations in a bid to heighten the political participation of youths in form of public opinion reached out to some students of OAU, one of the higher institutions in the state, to get their takes there concerning the election.

Here are some of the opinions we were able to get from the students of OAU.

“Make God sha help us cause if even at state level, e be like this”

Emma, 18

Wo, that one no really concern me. Shey na the one way just release pension funds to pensioners after him tenure don almost pass we go talk abi na the one way dey share garri and pop corn? Make God sha help us cause if even at state level, e be like this, imagine what this PDP and APC presidential people go dey do.

“Even if the candidates are angels, they eat in hell (their party)”

Elizabeth, 19

I just pray APC and PDP lose cause if not, I don’t even know but the next 4 year might be looking dangerous. Even if the candidates are angels, they eat in hell (their party) and that would have burnt their white wings into black. Labour party candidate winning will boost Peter Obi chances so I’m praying towards it even though I know how strong PDP and APC are.

“Make person no go jam agbako”

Ibukun, 19

I no even sabi who dey contest but make violence no sha dey o. Make person no go jam agbako and make whoever way win just try do good small. We know say all of them bad but make e do something way go carry us say he try.

“I don’t think an election is what we should be prioritizing right now”

Desola, 20

Adeleke all the way. Make Davido dey do more shows for our side. Joking apart, I don’t think an election is what we should be prioritizing right now. There are students at home and it’s not a good sign for the present administration at the state and federal level.

“Imagine 4 years of better experience than the last 4”

Bimbo, 20

I pray it is peaceful. It doesn’t really matter who wins. They’re all the same. We’ll just pray he has small sense to do what is right. Imagine 4 years of better experience than the last 4. That’s the wish but we know what they say about wishes. The election is just around the corner and the students can only be hopeful for the best. We wish Osun a peaceful election.

“I no even Sabi wetin dey go on for Osun again”

Victor, 21

As ASUU don put us for house, I no even Sabi wetin dey go on for Osun again. Praying they have a peaceful election tho.

“We hope it would be a free and fair election”

Yetunde, 21

Well I’m someone that is into politics like that but what i can say is that we are all aware that the election is this week and we are all hoping Oyetola will emerge as the winner. So we hope INEC will provide a good level playing ground and also make sure all there machine works effectively and most importantly that everyone gets their pvc so as to vote. We hope it would be a free and fair election.
