Meet Big Brother Naija Winners From Season 1 Till Date (2022)


The reality television show Big Brother Naija dated back from 2006, the Big Brother Franchise in Nigeria where several contestants are to live with each other as ‘housemates’ in a large secluded house; undergoing tasks and tests to compete for a one-winner cash prize and more. 

To date, the show has completed 7 seasons. Lucky individuals have so far won amazing prizes after each season, wading through the eviction pool and emerging the winner! 

In this article post, you’d meet the Big Brother Naija (BBN) winners from the very first season. Let’s take them from the very beginning 

1. Katung Aduwak, (SEASON 1 )

The first franchise of Big Brother was aired in Nigeria in 2006 on Dstv channel 37 between March 5 and June 4. The show was hosted by Olisa Adebua and Michelle Dede, housed 14 housemates, and run for 92 days. On day 23, 2 new housemates were introduced, and after a series of evictions, a 26-year-old Katung Aduwak emerged the winner through the vote of viewers.

Katung Aduwak won an equivalence of $100,000 from the show, and after Big Brother went abroad to pursue his filmmaking dream and has since then become a public figure. Katung has made a couple of films and his film debut was ‘Heaven’s Hell’ released in 2019. Katung is also a lover of NFT art.

The popular Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, hosting Big Brother Naija was a former housemate in the first season! Yes, he was popular if you have followed but if not, I don’t want to tell you about how he got evicted. 

2. Micheal Efe Ejeba, (SEASON 2 )

After 11 dormant years, Big Brother Naija came live again in 2017 with the theme ‘See Gobbe’ with yet again, 14 housemates. This is when the one and only Ebuka, a former housemate from season 1 started taking up the role of a host for the reality show. At half the show, two new housemates joined. Aired from South Africa on Africa magic, from January 22 to April 9 counting 77 days

Micheal Efe Ejeba with the highest percentage of votes, and indigene of Delta state emerged the winner of season 2 of Big Brother Naija

Micheal Efe Ejeba popularly known as Efe Money is a big media personality, songwriter, and rapper who increased in fame after his victory in the Big Brother house. Efe became the Youth Ambassador for Plateau state and also African Ambassador in Indian Varsity afterward. 

3. Miracle Igbokwe, (SEASON 3 )

The Big Brother Naija season 3, themed ‘Double Wahala’ also held in South Africa had 20 housemates. The show was run for 85 days, from January 28 to April 22, 2018, and aired on DStv channel 198. The host was still the one and only Ebuka. During this season, no new housemates joined but two evicted housemates re-entered on day 49 through the public vote. 

Miracle Igbokwe who was Head of House at week 4, a pilot and model by profession, emerged the winner in the 12th week with the highest vote. 

Miracle Igbokwe was given a 25 million naira cheque, a car, and a free exotic trip when he won Big Brother Naija that season. The miracle was from Imo state, so a few days after he got out of the house, the governor of Imo state appointed him the Ambassador Of Education and he graduated from an aviation school in the United States, on 26 June 2019. 

4. Mercy Eke, (SEASON 4 )

Big Brother Naija of season 4 was themed Pepper Dem started on the 30th of June through the 6th of October 2019,  a total of 99 days, and was held in Lagos, Nigeria. The host remain Ebuka and the housemates were 21 from the onset with five more entries of housemates later. Africa Magic and DStv aired the show and the Big Brother introduced Bet9ja Coins as the new house bills: To allow housemates to purchase anything during their stay at the house.  

In the final week, Mercy Eke whose profession cited her as a  video vixen, ambassador, and businesswoman at age won the Big Brother Naija season 4. Mercy was recognized as the first female to win Big Brother!

Mercy Eke audited four times for Big Brother before becoming a contestant, after winning the 60 million naira grand prize she ventured into various professions. Mercy Eke launched her clothing line(Mnm luxury) before the end of the year, December, and has previously signed endorsement deals with various brands. Mercy made her film debut in the movie Fate of Alakada’ in 2020 and has won several awards including the AMVCA 2020 for Best Dressed Female

5. Laycon, (SEASON 5 )

During the Covid-19 outbreak in 2020, Big Brother yet came live with the new theme: Lockdown. Big Brother Naija in season 5 housed 20 housemates, aired from 19th of July to 27th of September streamed live on DStv channel 198 and GOtv channel 29 for 71 days. The ever-present Ebuka remains the host of the show while new ways were made for eviction, and old methods were put back in place. 

The remaining housemates in Week 9  were divided into two teams; White and Black, and Laycon was randomly drawn to team White and eventually became the winner of the Big Brother of the season.

Olamilekan Massoud Al-Khalifah Agbeleshebioba popularly known as Laycon a native of Ogun state became most Big Brother Baija fans’ favorite, he became the first housemate whose Instagram page got verified. Laycon got an 85 million naira grand prize at the end of the show. Outside the house, Laycon has stepped up as a singer and rapper and recorded DJ Neptune’s ‘Nobody’ remix 2 days after he left the house. Laycon was made the Youth Ambassador by the governor of Ogun state then, October 6, and also a chieftain title the following year.  

6. Whitemoney, (SEASON 6)

The Big Brother Naija chronology in 2021 was themed; Shine Ya Eye hosted by Ebuka, broadcasted live on the same channel(Gotv and DStv) was run for 72 days from 24 July to October 3. As the Covid-19 pandemic still lingers, Big Brother made auditions virtually to pick its contestants; 26 housemates

Whitemoney, as an Enugu indigene and working as a businessman and entrepreneur, at week 8 was made Head Of House and emerged the overall winner of the Big Brother season at week 10. 

Whitemoney whose full name is Hazel Oyeze Onou concluded his academic pursuit at NECO sitting but he is a multi-business-prenuer with fixing skills and business invested. Whitemoney seemed to have musical talents as he started singing in 2018 and Big Brother not only gave grace to his name but a grand prize worth 90 million. He was recently signed into the EME record label of Banky W

7. Phyna, SEASON 7


Season 7 of Big Brother Naija: Level up the theme for this year, the show was hosted again by Ebuka for the 6th time and it premiered from 23rd of July till 2nd of October on DStv and GOtv Channel for the slated 72 days which concluded for a finale and we have the latest winner. Out of 28 housemates, Phyna was victorious!

Ijeoma Josephine Otabor popularly known as Phyna is one of the BBNaija season 7 housemates of the “Level Up” edition. Phyna is a 25-year-old entertainer or hype person— From the onset, Phyna assured her fans that she is at the house to make a difference as she joined the BBNaija Season 7, with other individualities like Elsoswag, Khalid, Pharmsavi, Amaka, Groovy, Bryann, Daniella, Kess, and more.

BBNaija Phyna is from Edo state and a “Hype woman“( by vocation means enthusiastic and vocal supporter or promoter of a person, group, or thing) 

Phyna has a personality that is jovial but quite a bit temperamental which you might have seen if you’re a fan of the show, bringing vibe and ginger which fans loved her for. 

Phyna had growing followers of 58. 7K fans on Instagram when she was getting her fame but has now been the first female BBNaija housemate to get verified on Instagram with her over 246 K followers and what more, she is the second female to win the Big Brother Naija franchise — outstanding! 

By the looks of sensations flying around the Season 7 Big Brother Naija winner, Phyna did make a difference. We only look forward to the flame kindling her fame outside the house.
