Netflix is no doubt the global film distributor sought after for movie production. The movies on Netflix gain popularity and rank as viewers across the world stream series of movies, tv shows, and a lot more in different genres and languages.

This week(October 3-October 9, 2022), Netflix’s Top 10 Non-English films were ranked according to the number of weekly hours; the total number of hours that Netflix members worldwide watched each title from Monday – Sunday of the previous week viewed globally. 10.  Saakini Daakini

Saakini Daakini, released on 16 September 2022, is a Telugu-based Action-comedy Indian movie. Produced as a spin-off from the 2017 South Korean film Midnight Runners, the movie tells the story of two female police trainees, Shalini and Damini, who start their relationship with hatred and become best friends after an encounter in a forest during training. They both witness gangsters kidnapping a girl to make her one of the unfortunate women in their egg-harvesting ring. Shalini and Damini worked together to save the girl and other girls from gangsters.

The drama revolves around two best childhood friends, Radha and Rishi, who were children of best friend parents, Ramu, and Chanti, that loved each other at age 14. A tricky incident made the children stop talking to each other till they were grown up, with their love still very much growing within them. They got caught in the political thirst of Arjun (Radha’s brother). Who will help reunite both families?

The history documented as a film revealed the unseen footage of the players of the 2002 tournament.

Each of the living brothers is; a decorated soldier in the French Army, a drug dealer, and the third, a community leader, outraged by the racist murder of Idir.

Jumping from High Places is an Italian romantic comedy film on Netflix, released on October 5, 2022. The film revealed Sole, a generalized anxiety disorder girl who lost her best friend to a car accident, an incident that hunts her every day. Being off meds and constantly suffering from panic attacks, Sole had a list of things she wanted to do until she got a job as a waitress, but her anxiety increased. With the help of her friends, Sole thought she had overcome it until she got away from her comfort zone.

5.  Togo

Togo is Walt Disney Production and American Historical adventure film released on December 20, 2019. The story went in the early 1910s-1920s, Where muster Leonard Seppala raised his dog, a Siberian Husky breed, Togo. Togo, who was thought to be weak and unfit for the sledding dog packs, with the support of Seppala’s wife Constance, the young dog turns out to be better than other sledding dogs. When a diphtheria outbreak in None, Alaska, Seppala, with the skill to journey 600 miles, set off with Togo in the frozen weather to get the serum for a diphtheria cure.

4.  Plan A Plan B

Plan A Plan B, released on 30 September 2022, is an Indian rom-com film in Hindi. The story of an uptight lawyer, Kosty, who specializes in divorce, and Vora, an earnest matchmaker fixing marriages, got their place of work next to each other. Their relationship starts with a growing conflict due to the contrast in their profession, but affection gets instilled in them over time, and love happened.

3.  Old People

Old People is a 2022 German horror, and thriller film streamed on Netflix as a non-English film. The movie reminded modern society not to neglect aged people and care for them. The story revealed how a woman with kids went to her hometown for her sister’s wedding. Both sisters went to get their father out of their father from retirement home but were soon purchased by other older people that escaped to embark on a killing spree.

Aside from the thrilling story, Old people streamed to rank in third place in  Netflix’s Weekly Global Top 10  as it was viewed in 11 countries on Netflix for 6,480,000 hours.

2.  Laal Singh Chaddha

Laal Singh Chaddha was released on August 12, 2022, as a Hindi film and a spin-off of the 1997 American movie Forrest Gump. The Indian film tells the story of a boy, Laal, with weak legs who later found he could run after a bullying incident and his best friend, Rupa. Both were fated under the unfavorable circumstances that separated them; a war between India and Pakistan in 1999 took a lot from them. Friendship and love were lost but found again after years of tests.

1.   Aníkúlápó

Aníkúlápó is a Nigerian epic fantasy Netflix-distribute film, indigenously representing the Yoruba culture. It was released on 30 September 2022 and told the story of Saro, who is a textile weaver and has a forbidden romance with Queen Arolake. Falling in love with each other, brought power and  popularity for Saro, but he soon became prideful and made outrageous demands from the villagers. Arolake deserts him and destroys his source of power.

Aníkúlápó has ranked in the category of Non-English films twice in Netflix’s Weekly Global Top 10 since its release. Viewed in 24 countries across the world from Europe, mostly America and Nigeria in Africa for 8,730,000 hours beating other titles in this category.
