Many OAU students were left stranded this morning as the commercial bus association in ile-ife commenced a protest over a “change in leadership ”. We could recall that Governor Ademola Adeleke was inaugurated as the 10th governor of Osun state yesterday. A source confirmed that “their head office at oshogbo is currently hijacked” by members of the ruling party PDP. The old union was under the opposition party (APC), and after the inauguration yesterday it was expected that the leadership of the union would change since the ruling party has changed.
Members of the group include commercial vehicles popularly known as “Town – igboro” or “Sabo-Lagere”.
Our correspondent, who moved through lagere to OAU Campus gate, observed large crowds at scores of bus stops & school gates as students jostled for a few available bikes and rides who hiked transport fares by up to 100%.
The Great Student Union of OAU is currently working to provide another means of transportation for students as at the time of this report, Bikes are still moving in and out of campus.
While some rich OAU students grudgingly paid the high fares to connect to their destinations, others took to trekking long distances from the campus Gate to SUB. The situation, coupled with the lingering fuel scarcity.
We do hope the issue is resolved and normalcy is restored
