In a statement released by the Executive Secretary of NUC, Professor Abubakar Rasheed, the Federal Minister of Education in Nigeria has issued a directive to close all universities and inter-university centers across the country in preparation for the upcoming general election.
The closure of universities and centers is a significant step in ensuring the safety and security of all citizens during the election period. Students, faculty, and staff have been advised to stay safe and stay informed about developments during this time.
According to the Honorable Minister of Education, Mal. Adamu Adamu, the decision was made after every necessary extensive consultation with relevant security agencies
According to the directive, all universities and centers will be closed from February 22nd, 2023 to March 14th, 2023, after which normal operations will resume. All exams, classes, and other university activities have been postponed during this period.
The directive is to be widely welcomed by the Vice Chancellors as well as Directors and Executive of the university communities. The closure of universities and centers is a temporary measure and normal operations will resume after the election period.
The Management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife is yet to release any secular to this directive.
Meanwhile, the government has assured the public that necessary measures have been put in place to ensure a smooth and efficient electoral process.
