47th Convocation: OAU Graduates 7,986 Students, 158 Bag First Class Honors

Sport and Struggle” at it again ! Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, widely regarded to as Africa’s Most Beautiful Campus, is set to hold its 47th convocation ceremony. The event is scheduled to take place from Thursday to Saturday, 9th December 2023, at the Amphitheatre of Oduduwa Hall on the university campus, celebrating the graduation of 7,986 students ,

One hundred and fifty-eight (158) students of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, will be graduating with first-class honors as the institution holds its 47th convocation ceremony, Unlike previous years when a total of 130 and 109 first-class graduates were produced, respectively, this year seems to be high. I guess you can now see why the term “struggle” in the school anthem is emphasized.

Inside OAU Media previously provided a detailed breakdown: the Department of Accounting emerged as the department with the highest number of first-class graduates, producing over 40 first-class honorees. Meanwhile, our beloved English Department, as usual produced zero first class and also secured its position with the highest number of third-class graduates, producing over 45 third-class honorees much like last year, it feels like déjà vu, albeit with a different figure this time.

In a press conference preceding the convocation, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Simeon Bamire, disclosed that out of the total graduating students, 158 achieved the remarkable feat of earning a first-class degree. The breakdown of the classifications for the graduating students includes 1,970 in the second class upper division, 2,906 in the second class lower division, 942 in the third class division, and 65 in the pass division.

The convocation ceremony unfolds across three days, showcasing the university’s commitment to honoring academic excellence and character development. On Thursday, the 7th of December, 2023, at 10:00 AM, the university will confer Bachelor’s Degrees upon deserving students from five faculties.
