Hello, my name is Tunde, and I’m excited to share with you how I met the love of my life through an SEA elective offered by OAU.
At the beginning of a new semester, I was eager to begin my final year journey as an OAU student. Although I had already completed all six electives, my friends advised me to take one more to be on the safer side. I was hesitant at first, but I didn’t want to risk having missing results and being forced to redo the course, leading to an extra year of school.
To my surprise, the elective I chose, SEA, had a field trip. Initially, I was angry because I always tried to avoid electives with field trips, as not attending them meant a zero. However, since it was part of the course, I had no choice but to attend. During the trip, we traveled to a local government in the outskirts of Osun State, and I decided to make the best of it since it was my last semester in Ile-Ife.
As I boarded the bus for the field trip, I noticed a beautiful girl sitting next to me. We introduced ourselves, and I learned her name was Fisayomi, and she was also a final-year student at OAU. Although I was nervous at first, I eventually mustered the courage to strike up a conversation, and to my surprise, it was as if Fisayo had been waiting for me to talk. We connected immediately and had similar interests in music, movies, and sports.
During the trip, it felt like the journey should never end. I couldn’t take my eyes off Fisayo, and when we returned to school, I walked her to her hostel in Moremi. Although I didn’t ask for her number, thinking that a beautiful girl like her would be tired of hearing that phrase, as I was about to leave, she hugged me and thanked me for making the trip fun for her. At that point, I thought I should tell her that I had misplaced my phone in the bus and ask if she could help me call it. She seemed pretty concerned and immediately dialed my number, and being a smart boy, I had given her my other number which was always in my small phone. It rang several times, and I told her not to worry, I would go to the park and ask about the bus driver.
Finally, I had given her a reason to call me. On getting home, I saw 20 missed calls from Fisayo, and as I was about to call her, her call came in and I immediately picked up and told her I found the phone. She seemed very happy as if it was her phone, and we talked for hours that day.
From that day, we started talking and getting to know each other better. Our conversations were effortless, and we just clicked. We went on dates, and it felt like we had known each other for years.
Fast forward to today, Fisayomi is not just the love of my life but also my wife. We got married in 2021, and I’m grateful for that SEA elective and field trip that brought us together. I cannot imagine what my life would be like without her. She is my rock, my confidant, and my everything.
