[Anonymous Experience] 20 OAU students shared with us their craziest experience on Campus

1

Earlier this week , inside OAU Media introduced a new concept tagged “Anonymous Experience” , with Anonymous Experience OAU students can boldly share any experience with us . For this week we decided to ask about their craziest experience and over 20+ OAU student took part in this .

There’s a saying that goes, “there’s time for everything“. It’s okay to say there are certain stages in our life when we live freely as a bird, when we get to do everything that pleases us.
One of those stage is the higher institution, a new life and an home away from home, a place we get to live as it pleases us, do as we wish and even control our lives.

There are also certain things we might regret not doing as a student, because once we leave school, we might not be able to relate to it and we might feel bad about it, you know.

Everyone of us have certain things we do behind the scene, so I’d be sharing the crazy experience of 20 OAU students

  • “Mozambique Hall warden and portals thought they were craziest in 2019…. The Sha didn’t allow my mattress in saying “it was too beautiful, it will attract bed bugs” the mattress is actually beautiful, I sow fur on it.. Fur that was meant to be ladies dress.. lol… I’m weird…. Long story short…. I smulgled the mattress in using the side gate at the last block of the hostel! The first day I slept on the floor, I couldn’t bear it another day, so I stole my own mattress from them and I smulgled it in….”

  • “I am currently having s*x with my neighbour .The guy is too cute to be ignored “

  • “I took weed into my department’s H.O.D!”

  • Amy – “so , i was a very timid church girl when I entered OAU, I mean I couldn’t even hug guys but I noticed everyone else had already evolved past that or that they were never even there. Guys go after the already bad girls and here’s the virgin me seriously looking for ways to get a boyfriend or even make friends. So I built a personality for myself, you know bad girl, I do drugs, I smoke weed, and all sort of lies. But then I got invited to a smoke hangout and because I had to live up to my name. “Cocaine” I smoked for the first time in my life and I almost died, I later passed out in the bus I fell sick for two weeks straight up!”

  • “Besides regularly jumping Faj’s fence, it’ll be checking for smashers in all the spots around campus, and watching moremi ladies dress and undress, as I could easily pass as a girl”

  • “Two days before the recent protest lockdown had a quickie around to 8 with a lecturer at social sciences car park Crazy yeah it was the best “

  • Oyinkonjadesola – “I met the love and joy of my life at old EDM, we had our first kiss at faculty of law basement. We met in 2016 when we were both in our second year, then up until this very moment has being the best days of our lives. We are celebrating our anniversary on the 3RD of November, which is two days after my birthday. He was the best gift God gave me. He’s indeed the bone of my bones. Thanks to OAU for making me meet MY KING.”

  • Daniel – “I have trekked all the way from ETF to banking area to withdraw my last #500. Getting to the atm, i discovered I was not with my atm. Had to go back to the room, pickup the atm and still trek back to banking area to withdraw. Omo, I was broke and spent that day.”

  • “Well One Oau “Celeb” treating Someone badly as I write this…cos of Stupid Love..I am just waiting for the Right time so I can Open it all.”

  • “Why should Hon. TSA be the next president of Faculty of Education?”

  • “I went to lecturer office to do my missed test and he gave me the topics I haven’t read at all and I brought my phone out in his office seated infront of me but I didn’t know whether he knew I used phone.”

  • “OAU Architecture no be for lazy ones My part 1, I feel like “I can finish with 1st class”not knowing what awaits me My part 2 was nothing to write home about and my orientation change “Slept in studio for 3days without bathing or brushing” Can’t type all the unspeakable things I’ve done”

  • “On April 1st, I pranked a lot of people. This was around 1:00am in the midnight. I kept asking anyone who greeted me or bump into me ( all strangers) ” can you see me ? “. Then say ” Help me, i must revenge, He must not go Scot Free ” . Some fell for it, thinking I was some ghost, some didn’t, knowing it was April fool’s day. It was how”

  • “I did Around for my lecturer (Dr Akinbo) in a 7 to 9am class cos most of us were late… He got annoyed and stoned me duster and started to throw punch like a boxer on me… He wanted to fight with me.. baba nearly fall down.. OAU Final-Year Student Tragically Loses Life in Ghastly Accident

0
It’s a dark Thursday in the community of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU). The entire community is shaken by the tragic loss of a final-year student, identified as Edu Rita Ema from the Department of  foreign languages, who lost her life on her way to submit her final year project. The tragic incident occurred on the Ibadan-Ife Expressway, not far from the OAU campus gate. We recall that on 25th November 2021, a Part 2 male student of OAU, Joseph Daniel, lost his life in an auto crash that occurred around Ede Road, Ile-Ife. Eyewitnesses reported that the car involved in the accident, a 2012/2014 Camry, was moving at an alarming speed, which led to the vehicle crashing and somersaulting, eventually landing upside down. The impact was so severe that Rita was thrown into the air like a piece of paper, leading to her unfortunate and instant demise. Her head and leg were reportedly sev3red from her b3dy, leaving a gruesome scene that has traumatized those who witnessed the event. The driver of the vehicle attempted to flee the scene but was chased down by onlookers horrified by the accident. The cause of the reckless speeding remains unknown, and there are calls within the university community for a thorough investigation to bring justice for Rita. As the news of Rita’s death spread, it cast a dark cloud over the university, with students and staff alike expressing their sorrow and disbelief. The broken covets at the campus gate, now understood to be the result of the crash, serve as a grim reminder of the tragic event. The university administration has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, and further personal details about Rita remain undisclosed at this time. However, the loss of a promising final-year student has undoubtedly left a significant impact on the OAU community. This tragedy serves as a somber reminder of the importance of road safety and the devastating consequences of reckless driving. As the investigation continues, the community holds its breath, hoping for answers and justice for Rita. At the time of writing this report, we have not yet confirmed the full details, as our account is based on information from our correspondent , more details to come later The management and entire members of Inside OAU innovations express our condolence with the friends and family of the deceased and hope that they find the fortitude to bear the loss

SIX (6) THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT OAU’s POST UTME

Post-UTME admission screening exercise involves the verification of candidates’ UTME/O’level results and other relevant documents. Candidates are expected to get most of these documents/ requirements ready before the post-UTME/DE admission screening date. If you are preparing for the 2024 O.A.U. Post-UTME screening, it is essential that you get the past questions and answers in order to prepare adequately for the exercise. You can easily subscribe for IOI Post UTME Portal for just 2500 and Practice Unlimited Past Question , click here  .  It will help you know the nature of the Post-UTME exam, how the questions are set, how questions will be asked and the time you will be given to answer these questions. Many candidates have been asking questions on the kind of preparations they need ahead of their O.A.U. Post-UTME admission screening exercise. We have created a post to give you heads up on our Post-UTME/DE admission screening exercise.

Below are 6 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT O.A.U.’s POST UTME

  1. Registration should starts very soon
  2. The Post UTME Examination would kick few weeks after registration ends . Candidates who picked O.A.U. for second choice do not stand a chance of gaining admission.
  3. The Examination comprises 40 questions altogether, and these 40 questions go for 40 Marks. Meaning 1 mark for 1 question.
  4. The duration for the Examination is 60 Minutes ( 1 hour). Hence, the need to be time conscious.
  5. Your UTME subject combination is the same combination for the Post UTME I.e. the same subjects you sat for whilst writing your UTME are the subjects you’ll be writing for the Post UTME. For instance; an individual who wrote Biology, Chemistry and Physics in his UTME, these same subjects must be written in his Post UTME. Meanwhile, there’ll be an additional subject, summing it up to 4 subjects. This fourth subject would cut across History, Current Affairs and questions testing your reasoning ability, etc. For instance, questions such as; ‘Which University was first Established in Nigeria?’, ‘Which river is the largest in Nigeria?’, ‘Which bridge is the longest in the world?’. This fourth subject will hence be called “Aptitude Test
Note: You may not come across any question on Current Affairs in your “Aptitude Test”, but you need to be prepared just in case.
  1. Candidates who applied for Direct Entry (D.E.) should be reliably apprised that they won’t be writing any Examination, but would be screened. Therefore, they are to register too.
If you have any question regarding the conduct of the Examination, meet us at the Comment section. It’ll be duly attended to.

Everything You Need To Know About OAU Pre-Degree , CDL (2024)

OAU PRE-DEGREE ALSO KNOWN AS OAU CDL: OAU CENTRE FOR DISTANCE LEARNING, MORO CAMPUS, ILE-IFE.

INTRODUCTION

The Concessional Entrance Examination was eliminated in 1978, and university admission was consolidated through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) as a result of the implementation of the course unit system in Nigerian universities during the 1977–1978 academic year. Every year, well over a million people apply for admission to universities, which currently have a total capacity of roughly 250,000. From this backdrop, it is clear that a Pre-Degree Program in the Arts and Sciences is necessary. This program would act as a platform to prepare potential students for university admission, offer them a head start, and encourage exceptional studentship once they are enrolled. According to the university’s vision and goals, it is anticipated that the pre-degree program will encourage personal growth and correct any language, literacy, and learning deficiencies that students may have from secondary school in order for them to complete a university program.

OAU PRE-DEGREE DESCRIPTION AND STRUCTURE

The Pre-Degree Program is a rigorous coaching program designed to get recent high school graduates ready for college studies. English Language, which is a requirement for all students, as well as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Government, English Literature, and Religious Studies, are among the courses of study that are those of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) subjects. In addition to English, students are expected to select three other topics. The curriculum is divided into four contact hours per week for each subject throughout each of the two contact periods, which are each 18 weeks long. The first and second contact periods are separated by a three weeks break, and each contact period is followed by a week of testing. For consideration for admission into Year 1 of the appropriate degree programs of the University, an overall score of 60% or higher is necessary for the exams and continuous assessment (comprising frequent tests, assignments, and the end of the contract term examination). Admission is solely based on merit, entry standards, and the University’s admission quota for each of the various Faculties. It is important to highlight that, as it is now being run, the O. A. U. Pre-Degree Program exceeds the basic standards of quality set by the National Universities Commission (NUC). Additionally, the curriculum encourages personal growth and corrects any language, literacy, and learning disabilities that may have been present in secondary school, preventing students from effectively completing a university degree.

OAU PRE-DEGREE SUBJECT COMBINATION

The following general options and subject combinations are used to accept students to the pre-degree program:

ARTS

  1. Government, English-language literature, and religious studies (GLR)
  2. English literature, government, and economics (EGL)

NATURAL SCIENCES

  1. BCP: Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
  2. (CMP) Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics
  3. Physics, mathematics, and geography (GMP)

BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES

  1. EGM: Economics, Government, and Mathematics
  2. Economics, geography, and mathematics (MGE)

OAU PREDEGREE PROGRAM GOALS AND VISION

To find exceptional candidates for the university’s degree programs and reduce the high dropout rate. To guarantee that eligible secondary school graduates are well-prepared for university studies. To improve students’ analytical and independent learning capabilities, as well as their intellectual growth and oral and written communication talents. These are the goals of the OAU PRE-DEGREE Program.

OAU PRE-DEGREE PROGRAM ROUTINE OR TIMELINE

Normally, the program lasts for two (2) contact periods, both running over a total of nine (9) calendar months. It is divided into two (2) 16-week contact periods with a minimum of four and a maximum of five contact hours per subject each week. Between the first and second contact periods, there is a three-week break, and each contact is followed by one week of assessment. The conclusion of the program typically occurs before the start of the university academic term. The University’s closure has had no impact on the program. Face-to-face learning with lecturers and tutors is applied at the specially constructed distance learning study center at Moro, Ife North Local Government Area, Osun State, operated by Obafemi Awolowo University.

OAU PRE-DEGREE PREREQUISITES

A minimum of five OLevel credits, taken in one or two sittings, are required for admission into the program. These credits must include English Language, Mathematics, and three other Science subjects for all Science-based courses, three other Social Science subjects for all Social Science-based courses, and four Arts subjects for all Arts-based courses. An entrance exam is used to choose qualified applicants for admission.

What is the JAMB cut-off mark for pre-degree students?

Unlike regular JAMB candidates, the pre-degree cut-off mark to be admitted into Obafemi Awolowo University is 180. You need a JAMB score of at least 180 to be eligible for admission. Failing to meet this cut-off mark means no admission for that year.

As a pre-degree student, you don’t need to write the post-UTME exam. All you need for admission is your JAMB and pre-degree results. Incident Overview

In the early hours of Thursday, May 16, 2024, a severe weather event struck the campus of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State. A torrential downpour accompanied by a whirlwind led to the collapse of part of the roofing at the University Amphitheater. This unexpected structural failure resulted in injuries to four students who were attending a lecture at the time.

About Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Amphitheater

The university Amphitheater, which is one of the largest with a seating capacity of over 5,000, is like every other amphitheater: an open circular or oval building with a central space surrounded by tiers of seats for spectators, used for the presentation of dramatic or sporting events. Amphitheatre is a flawlessly designed building with 5000 capacity. The auditorium is widely known for its use for well organized and significant events such as Inaugural lectures, Multi-National company programs, Concerts, while the theatre is being used for lectures-taking, Matriculation, Shows, among other glorious applications.

What Really Happened

SER, a compulsory elective for all first-year students at OAU, was being held during the downpour. The SER course is a critical part of the university curriculum, requiring a minimum passing score of 40 marks. Regardless of a student’s overall academic performance, failing this course is like giving in room for extra year cause unlike other sourses this course run for a sesion not semster. While the class was ongoing, a heavy whirlwind started, leading to the collapse of part of the roof, which resulted in casualties involving four students.

Immediate Response

Following the incident, immediate actions were taken to provide medical attention to the injured students:
  • Vice-Chancellor’s Involvement: Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, the Vice-Chancellor of OAU, along with other principal officers, swiftly responded to the emergency. They visited the university’s Medical and Health Centre to oversee the care provided to the injured students.
  • Medical Transfers: Due to the severity of their injuries, two of the affected students were initially taken to the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital. However, due to limitations in medical equipment, they were subsequently referred to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC) for further treatment. The Chief Medical Director, Professor John Okeniyi, personally supervised their medical care.

Medical Attention

  • Initial Treatment: The injured students were first stabilized at the University’s Health Centre.
  • Further Care: The two students with more serious injuries are now receiving treatment at OAUTHC and are reportedly responding well to medical interventions.

 University Response

  • Appeal for Calm: In the aftermath of the incident, Vice-Chancellor Bamire issued an appeal for calm among the student body and staff. He emphasized the importance of continuing with academic and administrative activities without undue alarm.

The Fate of Amphitheater

As a precaution, the university administration has sealed off the Amphitheater to prevent further incidents. This closure will remain in effect until a thorough safety assessment and any necessary repairs are completed.

Current Status

  • Condition of Injured Students: The students receiving treatment at OAUTHC are making satisfactory progress. The university is committed to ensuring they receive all necessary medical care.
  • Academic Activities: Despite the incident, the university has maintained its academic schedule, urging students and staff to proceed with their usual routines while being mindful of safety protocols.

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Pre-Degree Admission Form for 2024/2025 Academic Session is Out [UPDATED]

The management of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) invites qualified candidates to her 2024/2025 academic session pre-degree programme admission exercise. OAU pre-degree programme normally runs for two (2) contact periods, both within nine (9) calendar months. OAU Pre-degree programme is designed to be an intensive coaching curriculum aimed at preparing senior high school graduates (senior secondary) for university education. Given the prevalence of deficiencies students carried over from secondary schools, OAU Pre-degree programme helps students deal with the setbacks that often accompany such circumstances by providing them with a good head-start which will facilitate superior academic performance in the university.

OAU Pre-degree Background

With the introduction of the course unit system in Nigerian Universities in the 1977/78 Session the concessional examination was abolished in 1978 and admission to Universities became centralized through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Well, over one million applicants seek admission every year into universities which now have a capacity of about 250,000. The competition is quite stiff and good preparation will result in better performance by the students. This background establishes the need for a Pre-degree Programme in the arts and the sciences that would serve as a platform to equip prospective students for university admission, give them a good head-start, and promote superior studentship in the university.

OAU Pre-Degree Philosophy

In accordance with the vision and objectives of the University, it is believed that the Pre-degree programme will promote individual self-development and remedy the deficiencies carried over from the secondary school in the ability to speak, read and write and to receive instruction in order to successfully undertake a university programme.

OAU Pre-Degree Programme Structure

The Pre-degree programme is an intensive coaching curriculum to prepare high school graduates for university work. The #OAUStudentsLife of a final year students with 4.32 CGPA , but choose to travel out to start afresh

Every week, Inside OAU Media aims to learn about the lives of regular OAU students. OgbaFemi is full of mystery and all types of creatures! Forget the fine structures and the outside glory; this school isn’t for the weak. In here, it is a jungle, and you must do everything to survive academically, financially, and psychologically.

On today’s episode of #OAUStudentsLife, meet Kunle, a final-year student who dropped out of OAU with a 4.32 CGPA to study in Germany.
I know a lot of people would say I am not wise. You that you are wise, how is Nigeria treating you? 😂 Everybody is always wise when it isn’t their story. A lot of my friends criticized me, saying I should have finished my BSc in OAU considering my CGPA, then applied for a master’s instead of starting afresh. “When it reaches your turn, do it like that.” Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Kunle. I used to be a student of OAU. Academically, I am all there. I left OAU last year after getting a partial scholarship to study in Germany. Before leaving, my CGPA was 4.32. I was hoping to push it to 4.5 with my SWEP, SIWES, and IT results, plus working hard in my last semester to finish with a first class. I had been applying for various scholarships since the lockdown. I wrote the SAT several times and always had a high score but couldn’t get the perfect scholarship. I was looking for a fully funded scholarship. Last year, one of the schools I applied to accepted me. At first, I wanted to decline and just finish my BSc, then travel out for my master’s because are you telling me my 7 years in OAU would be a waste (2 years for Covid plus ASUU Strike)? But then I thought of it again. With the way Nigeria is going, and after seeing the results of last year’s elections, I just knew it was over for the country, and I wasn’t wrong. 😂 When I left Nigeria, 1 Euro was around 450/500. Today, 1 Euro is 1600, not to even talk about other things. Each time my friends called me, they were always complaining about one thing or the other about Nigeria. I wouldn’t lie, at first, I regretted my decision because it isn’t easy here at all. Germany isn’t like the UK filled with Nigerians, so it was like I was on my own. I could only work 20 hours per week during school sessions and 40 hours per week during semester breaks. I was barely making enough to cater to my needs. In Nigeria, I dey ball o 😂 but here it isn’t easy at all. But then you know you are living in a country where everything is working. The government wouldn’t just wake up to implement stupid policies. Even if I ended up finishing with a first class, what is the probability I would get a job? Right now, I don’t regret my choice. I am almost done with my undergraduate studies here. The only things I miss about Nigeria are family, food, and my ex-girlfriend. I had to end a 4-year relationship 😭 because we both knew long distance wasn’t going to work out, especially when she had no plans of relocating. What many people don’t know is that schooling is beyond the degree. Just because I couldn’t wait till the end doesn’t make my stay in OAU a waste. My experience, the people I met, the friends I made are greater than my 4.32 CGPA to me. Also, I wouldn’t deny it, I miss Inside OAU and Trybe City. When I was still in OAU, you guys were my favorite media channels. I am still on all your subscriber groups and still constantly receive notifications. I must admit this new web series is a banger! Please keep it up and don’t stop 😂😭 because I know many of my favorite web series you guys just stopped halfway. After reading Yinka’s story, I just knew I would love to share mine too. I am happy to share my story with the OAU community. I hope I was able to inspire somebody. Your grades don’t define you and aren’t a sure ticket to success. While you are still in OAU, make friends, build networks, and connect with people that can guarantee you success more than the degree PS – For anominty , the name , level and other personal details have been changed To catch up on all our episodes of #OAUStudentsLife, click here
