Ten Popular Gospel artists in Nigeria

Gospel music in Nigeria has grown exponentially over the last few decades thanks to the contributions of great and talented men and women. Many gospel artists have evolved over the years; however, IOI has identified ten popular gospel artistes in Nigeria who have made significant contributions through their music. Let us get started.

10.  ADA EHI

Ada Ogochukwu Ehi (born 18 September 1987, age 35) is a Nigerian gospel singer, songwriter, recording, and performing artist. She began her musical career at ten as a backup singer for Tosin Jegede. She has steadily gained local and international recognition since starting her professional music career in 2009. Ada’s genres include contemporary gospel, Afro-pop, and others. She has been active since 2019 as she pursued her music career full-time. In 2019, “Only You” was named one of the top 20 most-viewed songs of the decade.

9.  SHOLA ALLYSON

Olusola Allyson Obaniyi is a Nigerian soul, folk, and gospel singer who rose to prominence in 2003 with her song “Eji Owuro”. Her musical styles include folk, soul, and religious. She works as a voice coach, counselor, consultant, singer, and songwriter. She majored in Music Technology at The Polytechnic, Ibadan. Among her songs are “Ife a’dale,” “Obinrin Ni Mi,” Aseye,” and “Adun.” Sola Allyson married Toyin Obaniyi in March 2003.

8.  SOLOMON LANGE

Solomon Lange is a Kaduna-born Nigerian gospel singer, solo artist, and motivational speaker. The founder of “1voice gospel concert.” He has undoubtedly released many songs with professionalism, including “You have done me well,” Grace,” and “My offering.” He married Florence Lange in 2015, and their marriage has been a model for many. From research, he doesn’t have much social media appearance.

7.   MOSES BLISS

Moses Bliss, a Nigerian Multi-Talented Music Minister, prolific Song Writer, seasoned Worshipper, Music Director, and seasoned instrumentalist, rose to prominence through his professionalism and talent. Since then, the talented gospel musician has not stopped delivering unique hits to his “on their toes” audience. “Too Faithful,” “You I live for,” “I Prepare,” “Miracle,” Bigger every day,” “Daddy wey dey Pamper (featuring Lyrical Hi),” and “Taking Care (featuring Mercy Chinwo)” are among them.

6.  MINISTER GUC

Gift Ugochi Christopher, born on October 8, 1993, is undoubtedly a gift to the gospel music industry. A multi-genre gospel music minister who was nominated for the “Marantha award USA” in  2020. Minister GUC has given us so many songs back to back that has warmed many people’s hearts, including “God of Vengeance,” “All That Matters,” and “Through Enternity,” among many others. In 2021, he married Nene Ntuk.

5.  FRANK EDWARDS

Frank Ugochukwu Edwards was born on July 22, 1989. Enugu-born Nigerian afro high-life praise and worship singer. He began his career in 2007. Frank is a pianist, songwriter, worship leader, musician, record producer, and sound engineer. He primarily employs vocals, piano, drums, and guitar. His latest album, Frankincense, which features Micah Stampley and Nathaniel Bassey, wowed everyone when it topped Beyonce’s and Adele’s albums on the iTunes album chart within a few hours of its release.

4.  TIM GODFREY

Timothy Chukwudi Godfrey, also known as fearless, is a 43-year-old Nigerian gospel singer, songwriter, worship leader, producer, and sound engineer whose journey began 19 years

ago. Timothy has released numerous songs, including Na You Be God, Amen, Alright, Oriki, I Worship, The Audience of One, and Mighty God.

In 2019, he was named Male Artiste of the Year at the Africa Gospel Awards (AGAFEST) and was nominated for Best International Artist at the Premier Gospel Awards. On April 23, 2022, he married his then-fianceé, whom he proposed to on Valentine’s Day 2022.

3.  MERCY CHINWO

On September 5, 1991, Mercy Nneda CHINWO was born. Born and raised in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, is a gospel musician, singer, actress, comedian, and songwriter. Mercy Chinwo’s excess love thrust her into the spotlight in 2018. She won the 2018 CLIMAX award as the best gospel artistes. In 2020, she was named gospel artist of the year. She married Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa of Water Brooks Church Lekki on the 13th of August 2022.

2.  NATHANIEL BASSEY

Pastor Nathaniel Bassey is a trumpeter and gospel songwriter who captured the hearts of many in 2017 with the #halleluyahchallenge. Pastor Nathaniel Bassey attended the University of Lagos, where he majored in international relations and politics. He continued his education by going to London to study politics. Conveniently, he studied music at Middlesex University Summer School. He sang IMELA, ONISE IYANU, and many more.

1.  SINACH

Osinachi Kalu Okro Egbu was born 30th March 1972(50 years). With the song, ‘WAYMAKER,Osinachi undoubtedly warmed the hearts of many. She is a singer, songwriter, and senior worship leader. She is a choir member at “THE CHRIST EMBASSY.” SINACH is known worldwide for being the first singer-songwriter to top the Billboard Christian Songwriter chart for 12 weeks. She is from Ebonyi state. She got married in 2014.
