PRESS RELEASE

At about 10:00pm on Monday (10th of April, 2023), One “Arinze” was caught by a group of people in Awolowo Hall of residence for stealing a phone and also using the bank app on the phone to make transactions and it was also observed that he went as far as messaging the relatives of the legitimate owner of the phone to request for funds.

After all of these, the entire Hall was thrown into disarray. And a mob gathered to beat him up and the so called “Arinze” tried to retaliate at the mob. He got a beating by the mob. The Executive Council of the Hall of residence then intervened by transferring the young man to the Security committee of the Union to avoid any harm and further assault from the mob.

Mr Arinze walked into the Students’ Union Building unaided and was apparently fine.

We pray for the repose of the soul of the Young man. And we as a Council stands against Jungle Justice, as it is an inhumane and wrong way of correcting evil acts in out society.

We will appreciate your cooperation in this time of utmost inconvenience by ensuring that we don’t misinform the populace

 SIGNED:

Awolowo Hall Of Residence Security Committee

More details would be released regarding the police investigation on the matter once we get the reports.
