Ife Youths Threaten Protest As OAU Proposes Inauguration Of New VC

Prof Adebayo Simeon Bamire was announced on March 17,2002 as the 12th Vice Chancellor of OAU succeeding the outgoing VC, Prof Eyitope Ogungbenro Ogunbodede, this wasn’t well received as the appointment was fraught with controversy as indigenes of Ife invaded the campus protesting Bamire’s appointment.


The management of Obafemi Awolowo University had decided to inaugurate Prof.Simeon Bamire as the 12th substantive Vice Chancellor,in lieu of this, The Ife Youth Organization had declared as signed by the national coordinator of the association Mr Abimbola Afolabi,a peaceful demonstration ( Protest) with utmost commitment to express their grievance.


The Ife Youth Organization had advised the general public to stay away from OAU campus and it’s environment from 6th June ( Monday).

The Ife indigenes declared that they will not relent on their struggles except justice is effected,the Ife indigenes accused the outgoing VC against manipulating the selection process against the most qualified candidate ( an Ife indigene).


The protesters argued that an Ife indigene should have been appointed,they demanded the reversal of the governing council’s decision, challenging the council to reveal the paramedics used in the selection of Prof Bamire.

They appeal to the concerned authorities to do the needful before the said date, as they are they are open to meaningful and progressive intervention.
